autogenic training

Autogenic training (from the Greek auto, meaning: “self” and the Latin gen, meaning: “create”) is a technique that aims to induce physical and mental relaxation by means of a type of self-hypnosis. Using this method to relax involves first sitting or lying down in a comfortable position. Then by repeating short phrases in your mind, you attempt to perceive the different parts of your body and produce an intense feeling of heaviness, warmth, coolness and calm. Examples of these phrases might be: “My arms are heavy.”, “My heartbeat is calm and regular.” or “I am completely calm and relaxed.”
